LISTENING PRACTICE 4

The time has come for a new listening practice. It seems you found the previous one a little difficult, well, I hope you find this one easier.

1. You have to listen to one of the following audios:

The Tube
The underground is like a separate world altogether, with its own unofficial code of behaviour. We find out what is considered acceptable behaviour and what is not and ask whether travellers on the tube are less polite than they used to be.

Clubbing
Find out about a night-time activity which is popular in London - especially in the winter festive season, when everyone wants to party, but it's too cold to be outside.
There are hundreds of clubs in London, playing music from acid to funky house...and, as we find out, a night out in a club can be quite an adventure!


Global English
Do you speak global English?
When someone from China speaks to someone from Sudan which language do they speak?
The British Council, an organisation that promotes British culture, has just published a new report about the importance of English as a global language.

Politeness
One of the most common words people around the world use to describe British people is 'polite'. In this edition of Weekender, Jackie explores politeness, etiquette and manners. Are the British becoming less polite? What is good etiquette?

Children in Need
Children in Need day is the day when celebrities give their time and talent for free and people from all over the country take part in strange events to raise money for charity.
In this programme learn more about Children in Need from Kate Power, the Head of Marketing and Public Relations for the charity and we also hear from Will who went out to meet people in London and ask about their Children in Need experiences.

2. You can also try the quiz in the Extras section to practise some of the language used in the programme and you can refer to the vocabulary table for helpful phrases.

3. And, as usual:
- Give a summary of the recording (60-70 words)
- Write what you've learnt, e.g, new words, new collocations, new grammar structures.
And hand it in.
